These are the cinematic VR trailers you’ve been looking for ...

by The Jaunt VR Team -

Part of the fun in developing a state of the art suite of tools for a new medium like cinematic VR is the fact that there are no rules. As we build the hardware and software that will power the next Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams or Geroge Lucas of VR, we get to have a little fun along the way testing new techniques of storytelling.

In partnership with New Deal Studios and The Stan Winston School of Character Arts, we’ve filmed three cinematic VR experiences that put you “inside” an unfolding narrative. And they are available right now for download.

In partnership with New Deal Studios and The Stan Winston School of Character Arts, we’ve filmed three cinematic VR experiences that put you “inside” an unfolding narrative. And they are available right now for download.

These short films are the first of their kind: 360-degree, stereoscopic 3D, with interactive omni-directional audio, captured and rendered with Jaunt’s Cinematic VR  technology.

Imagine this: you awake to the sound of your friend's panicked voice, nails scratching overhead on a thin tin roof making the hairs on your arm stand on end. You've been drugged, abducted and abandoned in a filthy room marred with deeply unsettling stains and abandoned cruel-looking tools. The lights flicker as distant screams reach your ears and your heart begins to race. This is the "Black Mass Experience," directed by Gregory Plotkin (the director of the newest installment in the “Paranormal Activity” franchise).

Next, have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be at Ground-Zero of a giant Kaiju attack?  In “Kaiju Fury!” you can experience it firsthand. An explosion lights up the city as a towering monster looms into sight, two glowing eyes just visible in a cloud of dust and debris. The nightmare clears the corner, smashes a car underfoot and rears its head back with a shattering roar - and it didn't come alone. Get your first look at the mayhem to come in this homage to the monster movies we grew up with. Directed by Ian Hunter (who recently completed work with Christopher Nolan on “Interstellar”).

Finally, drop into the action of secret mission gone wrong in the WWII rescue-thriller “The Mission,” Directed by Matt Gratzner. In this fast moving trailer, you’ll get a taste of incredibly immersive action that puts you in the middle of an enemy assault, atop a tank that crashes through barbed wire and in the tight confines of a bunker for close combat. Cliff hangers will follow our three heroes as their adventures continue in further installments to come.

Curious what it’s like to make one of these exciting new films?

"As a director, 360 VR gives you the chance to stretch as an artist and create a fully realized world. It’s a very exciting journey into this new frontier,” says “Kaiju Fury!” director Ian Hunter.

Matthew Gratzner, director of “The Mission” adds, “Telling a narrative story in Virtual Reality is thrilling.  With “The Mission,” you're not watching a movie, you feel like you're actually in the movie.”
